AAFFM Presents: Mockingbird’s Wing and CJ Jones and the Spirit Bones

January 21, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EST

$8 – $10

Mockingbird's Wing

MOCKINGBIRD’S WING

Mockingbird’s Wing is an organically grown acoustic band made up of four diverse musicians:
Barbara Hotz is a singer/songwriter with deep roots in Mexico and a love of the old standards. Jonathan McBee is a multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter out of Chicago IL. If it’s got strings, Jonathan is looking to add it to the Mockingbird sound. Paul Pendery is a Montana/Alaska/Texas singer/songwriter whose songs evoke soulful stirrings and happy feet. Suzy Schultz, when not at her day job as a full-time artist, adds vocals/flute/cello to the Mockingbird sound.

Like the mockingbird herself, all the different voices and styles come together for a unique, inimitable sound that has gained Mockingbird’s Wing a strong following at local coffeehouses and festivals.

CJ Jones and the Spirit Bones

CJ JONES AND THE SPIRIT BONES

CJ Jones & The Spirit Bones play original songs that sound like Commander Cody, Mojo Nixon, and Hunter S. Thompson had a three-way mutant love child. Their first CD, “The Odyssey of Cledus Jeremiah Jones,” is a concept album based on the Legend of Appalachian Prophet Cledus Jeremiah Jones. Read the full story at cledusjeremiahjones.com. Link to social media and YouTube at bottom of that page or search any streaming service to preview “CJ Jones & The Spirit Bones” music. The second album follows the Cledus questionable cost-benefit analysis during life’s teachable moments – the chill vs. the giddy.

Band Leader and songwriter Ted Pettus (alter ego of Cledus) keeps his day job teaching anatomy and neuroscience at Emory University. But his alter ego, Cledus, plays with some of Atlanta’s finest musicians who bring these songs to a new level of funkabilly at notable venues such as Clermont Lounge, Red Light Café, The Earl, Inman Park Festival and Lake Claire Land Trust, to name a few. The group also features Craig Rafuse on guitar, Andy Weiskoff on bass, and Doug Landsburg on drums.

Aside from the sound, the album covers (and associated website) have works from several of the south’s finest visionary folk artists.
