AAFFM Presents: Kevin “Kalimbaman” Spears, and Mick and Evan Kinney

July 16, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm EDT

$8 – $10

KEVIN “KALIMBAMAN” SPEARS

International recording artist Kevin Spears is hailed as one of the most gifted kalimba players alive. His mastery of kalimba (African thumb piano), customized musical gadgets, tiny synths and experimental percussion allow him to create a fusion of world, jazz and folktronica that moves your feet and stirs your soul.

“Kevin Spears puts on a performance full of groove, sound and intimacy that draws you into his unique yet universal world.” – Benoit Glazer, Musical Director, Cirque Du SOLEIL. Seeing Is Believing!

MICK and EVAN KINNEY

Mick Kinney is a folklorist, composer, lyricist, and multi instrumentalist. Expect an eclectic blend of ragtime, Georgia fiddle tunes, swing, Cajun, Irish, novelty songs, and some traditional style originals. He has recorded several albums of his own material; has accompanied Vick Chestnut, Victoria Williams, John Hartford; and collaborates regularly with his partner, Elise Witt.

Mick will be joined by his son Evan from their family string band, the HickHoppers. They performed this spring at the Brooklyn Folk Festival and will be featured artists this summer at the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Washington state. Their latest CDs are In Dear Old Georgia (2015), with Grammy winner Art Rosenbaum on banjo, and What Would Geezers Do? (2016).
